Hardware Requirements

Infrastructure Requirements

SYSTEM 5 runs on Microsoft infrastructure — Windows Server 2019 or newer, with MS SQL Server 2019 or newer as the database engine. It is designed for centralised deployment, meaning the application and database run on a server that all clients connect to. Installing the client locally while accessing a remote database is not a supported setup.

For the WebApp, an additional services server running IIS is required alongside the database server.

Cloud-Based Setup

For teams running SYSTEM 5 in a hosted or private cloud environment, we recommend a minimum two-server architecture — one handling the application and database, one acting as a terminal server for client access. This is the cleanest setup for maritime teams and simplifies both maintenance and remote access.

On-Premise Setup

For teams running on their own infrastructure, SYSTEM 5 works within your existing server environment provided the Windows Server and MS SQL version requirements are met. Database size depends on mail volume — archives can be separated and stored on additional drives to keep the primary database lean. Client machines require .NET Framework 4.7 and modest RAM allocation per user.

Cybersecurity & NIS 2 Compliance

SYSTEM 5 already meets many core requirements of the EU NIS 2 Directive without expensive upgrades. We recommend a formal assessment with your compliance advisor to confirm your specific obligations.

Digital Signatures

Outgoing emails signed for sender verification and content integrity.

Automatic Encryption

Confidential information encrypted during transmission.

SPF (Sender Policy Framework)

Only authorized servers send on behalf of your domain.

DMARC Support

Incoming emails checked against SPF and DKIM rules. Non-authentic emails blocked.

White & Blacklists

Per-journal or global. Unknown senders go to SPAM section automatically.

Attachment & Link Blocking

Suspicious attachments and phishing links in spam emails blocked automatically.

Non-Standard File Blocking

Executable files (.exe, .js) blocked to prevent malware.

Own Mail Server Option

Reinhardt operates mail server with dual virus scanning and RBL spam checks.

Reply-To Mismatch Warning

Automatic detection when sender and reply-to addresses differ (phishing indicator).
